Netflix Games vs Apple Arcade download Comparison Statistics 2026

Netflix’s mobile game portfolio pulled 2 million to 4 million new downloads a month across most of the three years to April 2026, per Appfigures estimates given to Sherwood News. Apple has never published a download total for Apple Arcade. That asymmetry shapes every comparison of the two services. Here is what each company reports, what analytics firms estimate, and what none of it measures.

How Many Downloads Does Netflix Games Get?

Netflix Games downloads are estimates from app analytics firms, not company disclosures. Sensor Tower put the portfolio at 81.2 million downloads worldwide across the App Store and Google Play in 2023.

The same estimate set records 28.7 million in 2022 and 5.2 million in 2021.

The Fourth-Quarter Skew

Sensor Tower attributed around 53% of Netflix’s 2023 downloads to the fourth quarter. The comparable share in 2022 was 36%.

Appfigures, working from its own estimates, ties the December 2023 spike to the launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, which lifted the portfolio north of 25 million downloads in a single month. Spikes of that size did not repeat.

Netflix has also slowed its release schedule. Appfigures data cited by Sherwood News in April 2026 shows 18 game releases in 2025, against a typical 30 to 40 a year previously.

What Apple Publishes About Apple Arcade Downloads

Apple releases no download counts for Apple Arcade, no subscriber figure, and no per-title installs. What it does publish is an annual ranking.

The App Store’s Top Apple Arcade Games of 2025 chart for the United States placed NFL Retro Bowl ’26 first, NBA 2K25 Arcade Edition second, and Balatro+ third. The chart is an order, not a set of numbers.

Apple’s corporate reporting stops at the service tier. In the quarter ended June 27, 2026, Apple reported Services revenue of $30.7 billion, a June-quarter record, and said paid subscriptions across its services passed 1.5 billion. Neither figure isolates Apple Arcade.

One Apple download claim does touch Arcade. Apple’s 2025 US charts named Block Blast! the most downloaded free iPhone game of the year, and Apple confirmed on August 11, 2026 that an ad-free version, Block Blast!+, joins Arcade on September 3, 2026. Also arriving that day: Let’s Play! Oink Games+, a collection of nine tabletop titles, which puts Arcade closer to the territory covered by digital adaptations of cooperative board games.

Netflix Games vs Apple Arcade Pricing in 2026

Apple Arcade costs $6.99 per month in the United States, with a one-month free trial and three free months on a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV. It is also bundled into three Apple One tiers.

Netflix charges nothing extra. Games are bundled into every Netflix plan, with no ads and no in-app purchases, and the catalog is downloaded from the App Store or Google Play rather than paid for per title.

Device rules differ. Netflix requires an Android 8.0 phone or tablet, or an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, plus an active subscription; games are not available on Kids profiles. Apple Arcade Originals run on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro, and one subscription covers a family of up to six — the same six-player ceiling used by many cooperative party board games.

Netflix Games vs Apple Arcade: Where the 2026 Strategies Diverge

Netflix’s July 16, 2026 shareholder letter reported its two most successful cloud game debuts in June: FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition and Unhinged. Both run on TV rather than through a phone download.

Netflix Playground, a kids games app launched in April 2026, has tripled daily players since launch, and Netflix said kids mobile game engagement rose 600% year over year. The letter calls the base small. Households weighing screen time against table time can compare that pitch with family game night picks for 2026 and with cooperative games built for younger players.

Netflix excludes game play hours from its What We Watched engagement report, so games sit outside the 97 billion view hours it reported for the first half of 2026.

The parent business supplies the scale. Netflix posted $12.56 billion in Q2 2026 revenue, up 13.4% year over year.

QuarterNetflix revenue
Q2 2025$11,079 million
Q3 2025$11,510 million
Q4 2025$12,051 million
Q1 2026$12,250 million
Q2 2026$12,560 million

Apple’s direction runs the other way: importing proven free-to-play hits and premium ports into a paid, ad-free tier. Its September 3 slate adds NFL Retro Bowl ’27 and Coloring Games for Families+ alongside Block Blast!+, while the puzzle catalog already carries Grindstone, Flow Free+, and Crossword Jam+ — a lineup with roughly the tempo of puzzle-driven tabletop games.

What These Netflix Games vs Apple Arcade Numbers Do Not Show

Downloads are not players. One person can download a title several times, or download and never open it, and Netflix requires an account sign-in before play.

Netflix’s estimates and Apple’s rankings also measure different things. A monthly download estimate from Appfigures and a yearly rank order from Apple cannot be added, subtracted, or charted together.

Neither figure captures retention, session length, or how many subscribers open the games tab at all. For a category where head-to-head play is measurable at the table instead, the ranked co-op tabletop list and guides to playing co-op titles online with friends use player counts rather than install counts.
