Google Zerg Rush

Killed: 0APM: 0Results left: 0

Three clicks kills one O. Everything you fail to reach in time gets eaten, and when the last block goes the survivors line up and spell GG at you.

What Is Zerg Rush?

Zerg rush turns a page of results into something you have to defend. Os drop in from all four edges, pick the nearest block of text and start chewing. Each one takes three hits, the counter tracks your kills, and a second counter shows your actions per minute while you work.

It is the only trick in this set with a real fail state. You cannot save the page, so the score is how much damage you do before the last line of text disappears.

How Zerg Rush Started

Google launched it in April 2012. Typing the phrase into search set the Os loose on your own results, kept score in the corner, and finished with the GG sign-off borrowed from competitive strategy games, where a zerg rush means swamping an opponent with cheap units before they can build a defence.

The search version was retired later, which is why zerg rush removed and zerg rush easter egg removed are still typed in regularly. The game itself survived in rebuilt form, the same way thanos snap did.

How to Play Zerg Rush

  • Press start the rush, then click each O three times. One click only staggers it.
  • Defend the big blocks first. A long result takes far longer to eat than a footer link.
  • Keep an eye on the APM figure. Anything past 120 is quick work.
  • Press send a bigger wave if you want the swarm to arrive faster and the round to end sooner.
  • Restart resets the page, the counters and the swarm together.

Everything on screen is edible here, including the tab row and the knowledge panel, so a round runs longer than the original did.

FAQs

Can you win zerg rush?

No, and that is the design. The page always falls eventually, so the only score that matters is your kill count when it does.

Why do zarg rush, zerf rush and zury rush all lead here?

They are typos for the same game. Search engines correct them, so they end up as suggestions in their own right.

Is there a mirrored version?

People pair it with google mirror for a reversed round, which makes aiming considerably harder.

What else came out of that era?

The tilt trick and the spinning page arrived around the same time and are both in the google easter eggs list.
