Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers Count And Statistics 2026

Nintendo Switch Online had 34 million active paid memberships as of September 30, 2025, the figure Nintendo disclosed at its November 4, 2025 corporate briefing. The count did not move from the level reported a year earlier, even after the Switch 2 launched in June 2025. This post collects every verified subscriber, pricing, and revenue figure published through mid-2026, including the July 2026 price increase in Japan.

Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers: Key Notes

  • 34 million active Nintendo Switch Online memberships as of September 30, 2025, unchanged from the “over 34 million” reported for September 30, 2024.
  • Only 34 million of Nintendo’s 400 million registered Nintendo Accounts pay for the service, an 8.5% conversion rate as of September 30, 2025.
  • PlayStation Plus counted 47.0 million subscribers as of March 31, 2026, while Xbox Game Pass sits near 30 million per a mid-2026 Wall Street Journal report.
  • Japan’s annual individual plan rose from ¥2,400 to ¥3,000 on July 1, 2026, the first Switch Online price change in that region since the September 2018 launch. The US annual price stays at $19.99.
  • Nintendo’s digital sales, the line that contains Switch Online income, reached ¥407.6 billion in FY2026 (April 2025 to March 2026), up 25.0% year on year.

How Many Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers Are There?

Nintendo does not publish a Switch Online membership count every quarter. It has disclosed the figure at three corporate briefings in the current data window, and the last two landed on the same number.

Disclosed Switch Online membership at each briefing

President Shuntaro Furukawa acknowledged a year-over-year decrease at the November 2024 briefing and attributed it to fewer new releases built around online play. In February 2025 he told investors the level had stayed stable at 34 million since the previous September.

The flat total covers a period that includes the June 5, 2025 Switch 2 launch. New hardware has so far replaced churn rather than expanded the paid base, a pattern that also shows up across the wider gaming subscription adoption data.

Paid members within 400 million Nintendo Accounts

The conversion gap is the clearest growth lever Nintendo has. 34 million paying members against 400 million registered accounts works out to 8.5%, and against the 128 million annual playing users it is roughly 27%, all measured as of September 30, 2025.

Expansion Pack Keeps Growing Inside a Flat Total

Furukawa said at both the 2024 and 2025 briefings that Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack memberships have been steadily increasing since the tier launched in October 2021. Nintendo has never published the tier split.

The repeated disclosure still matters for revenue. The Expansion Pack costs $49.99 per year for an individual in the US against $19.99 for the base plan, so a shifting mix raises income per member even while the headline count sits still, per Nintendo’s US membership pricing.

Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers vs PS Plus and Game Pass

Nintendo’s 34 million sits between Sony’s confirmed count and the current Game Pass estimate. A fuller head-to-head between the other two services is in this Xbox Game Pass vs PlayStation Plus subscriber comparison.

Paid subscribers by service, latest disclosed or reported figure

The pricing gap does most of the explanatory work in this table. Nintendo’s base tier costs one quarter of PlayStation Plus Essential, which sits at $79.99 per year in the US per Tech Insider’s July 2026 pricing rundown.

Sony collects far more per entry-level member as a result, and its Game & Network Services segment posted a record ¥463.3 billion in operating income for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. Tier mix, churn, and revenue detail for Sony’s service sit in this PlayStation Plus subscriber breakdown.

Microsoft has not confirmed a Game Pass figure since February 2024. The ~30 million figure comes from a person familiar with the matter speaking to the Wall Street Journal, after reports that the October 2025 Ultimate price increase cost the service millions of members. Nintendo Switch Online Price Increase and Regional Changes in 2026

Nintendo announced on May 8, 2026 that Switch Online prices in Japan would rise on July 1, 2026, the first change there since the service launched in September 2018. Nintendo framed the revision as alignment among regions for a globally unified service, and VGC tied it to the yen trading near its weakest level against the dollar since 1986.

Japan annual plans before and after July 1, 2026

US pricing is unchanged as of this writing, at $19.99 for the individual annual plan and $49.99 for the individual Expansion Pack, per Nintendo’s own membership page. VGC noted the new ¥3,000 Japanese rate converts to around $18.58, still under the US price.

One structural change cut the addressable base this year. Nintendo discontinued Switch Online in China on May 15, 2026, per the service’s Wikipedia record of the shutdown notice.

What Switch Online Subscribers Add to Nintendo’s Revenue

Nintendo folds Switch Online income into its digital sales line rather than reporting it separately, so the digital figures below are the closest verified proxy for the subscription business.

Financial metricFigurePeriod
Digital sales (includes Switch Online)¥407.6 billion, up 25.0% YoYFY2026 (April 2025 to March 2026)
Digital share of dedicated platform software sales54.6%, up from 53.5% in FY2025FY2026
Total net sales¥2,313.0 billion, up 98.6% YoYFY2026

FY2026 was the first full fiscal year in which digital passed half of Nintendo’s dedicated platform software revenue. Nintendo’s annual report puts the ¥407.6 billion digital line at USD 2,563 million at the company’s stated conversion.

The hardware base under those members kept expanding. The Switch family reached 155.92 million lifetime units and the Switch 2 hit 19.86 million by March 31, 2026, per Nintendo’s May 2026 results, a combined base above 175 million units. Full model-by-model figures are in this Switch lifetime sales breakdown and the Switch 2 sales statistics report.

Set the September 2025 membership count against that hardware total and roughly one in five Switch-family consoles ever sold carries an active subscription, with the caveat that the membership figure predates the hardware total by two quarters. How the family compares with Sony and Microsoft hardware sits in this Switch vs PS5 vs Xbox lifetime sales comparison.

The next official membership update should arrive at Nintendo’s November 2026 briefing. It will be the first count taken after the Japan price increase and with a full year of Switch 2 owners in the pool.
