What Does GeForce Now vs Xbox Cloud Gaming Cost in 2026?

NVIDIA charges for the hardware. Microsoft charges for the catalogue. GeForce NOW members must already own their games on Steam, Epic, GOG, Ubisoft Connect or Xbox.

Game Pass bundles the library into the fee. Microsoft cut Ultimate on April 21, 2026, and left the two cheaper tiers untouched. Fuller quarter-by-quarter detail sits in these Xbox Cloud Gaming user statistics.

How Do GeForce Now vs Xbox Cloud Gaming Playtime Limits Work?

GeForce NOW Performance and Ultimate members get 100 hours of playtime per billing month, with up to 15 unused hours rolling into the next month, per NVIDIA’s FAQ.

Members grandfathered into unlimited playtime kept it only until their first billing date after January 15, 2026. Founders memberships keep unlimited playtime for life as long as the account does not lapse.

Running out no longer locks members out of their installs. Since April 30, 2026, premium members keep Install-to-Play access without buying extra hours, though they drop to basic rigs. Every paid Game Pass tier that includes streaming describes it as unlimited.

How Many Hours Does Xbox Cloud Gaming Stream?

Microsoft reports streaming hours on earnings calls rather than subscriber counts. Nadella called 140 million hours a record for the December 2024 quarter, then reported 150 million for the quarter after.

The two itemised quarters account for 290 million of the fiscal-year total. Microsoft has not broken out the remaining two quarters.

Engagement and revenue moved in opposite directions. Xbox content and services revenue turned negative in the December 2025 quarter and fell 10% in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Microsoft’s steepest drop of the fiscal year.

GeForce Now vs Xbox Cloud Gaming Streaming Specs

NVIDIA publishes exact output targets. Ultimate members stream from RTX 5080 rigs at up to 5K 120 fps, or 360 fps at 1080p in competitive mode. Performance members get RTX rigs at up to 1440p and 60 fps.

Microsoft publishes no resolution figure on its plan pages, describing Ultimate only as streaming at its best quality with the shortest wait times. That gap in disclosure, not a measured gap in quality, is what separates the two spec sheets.

The catalogue numbers are not comparable either. NVIDIA’s 4,500-plus figure counts titles a member can stream from stores they already pay for, including more than 2,200 Install-to-Play entries. Microsoft’s counts are games included in the plan. Reach differs too: Xbox Cloud Gaming ran in 29 countries as of November 2025, and Microsoft has expanded it to smart TVs, Fire TV and VR headsets, a spread that tracks with how players split their time across devices.

How Do Cloud Gamers Use GeForce Now vs Xbox Cloud Gaming?

The community platform cloudbase.gg surveyed 22,665 of its own visitors between April 2024 and September 2025. It is an opt-in survey of active cloud gamers, not a general population sample, and each question carries its own respondent count.

Loyalty is thin. Only 44% actively use a single service, and 29% say they regularly try new platforms.

The 29% who stream 30 or more hours a week clear 120 hours a month, past NVIDIA’s 100-hour ceiling. NVIDIA said when it announced the cap in November 2024 that roughly 6% of members would be affected, so the cap bites hardest among cloud-first players rather than the general membership.

PCs dominate access at 71%, which suits a bring-your-own-library model, since those players already hold Steam and Epic catalogues. Smartphones sit at 25%, a share that matters more to Microsoft and lines up with wider phone-first play data. Consoles and smart TVs trail at 8% each, well behind the PC platform’s overall scale.

What Cloud Gamers Spend Each Month

Among paying respondents, 73% spend less than $20 a month. That puts Game Pass Ultimate at $22.99 above what nearly three-quarters of the paying market currently budgets, while GeForce NOW Performance at $9.99 sits comfortably inside it.

Only 14% spend more than $30. Broader subscription uptake across gaming shows the same ceiling effect, and it shapes the revenue mix across platforms.

Both companies are testing the low end. NVIDIA’s free tier runs one-hour sessions with up to two minutes of video ads before each one. Microsoft began testing its own ad-supported streaming on July 23, 2026, letting Xbox Insiders stream games they already own free with ads and one-hour session limits. That test borrows NVIDIA’s structure and pushes both services toward the same entry point, a convergence visible in cross-platform adoption trends.

FAQs

Which is cheaper, GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming?

GeForce NOW Performance and Game Pass Essential both cost $9.99 a month. GeForce NOW Ultimate is $19.99 against Game Pass Ultimate at $22.99, but GeForce NOW caps paid tiers at 100 hours monthly.

Does GeForce Now have a monthly hour limit?

Yes. Performance and Ultimate members get 100 hours per billing month, with up to 15 unused hours rolling over. Founders memberships keep unlimited playtime for life provided the membership never lapses.

How many hours does Xbox Cloud Gaming stream?

More than 500 million hours in Microsoft’s fiscal year ended June 30, 2025. The service recorded 140 million hours in the December 2024 quarter and 150 million in the March 2025 quarter.

Why do Reddit threads disagree on which service has more games?

Because the two counts measure different things. NVIDIA’s 4,500-plus figure counts games members already own on connected stores. Microsoft’s 500-plus Ultimate figure counts titles included with the subscription.

Do Reddit complaints about the 100-hour cap reflect most members?

NVIDIA said about 6% of members would be affected. The cloudbase.gg survey found 29% of respondents stream 30-plus hours weekly, which clears 100 hours, so cloud-first players feel it far more.
