What Is Goooooooooogle?
Scroll to the foot of a results page and the page numbers are drawn as the logo itself, with one O for every page on offer. Ten pages gives you ten Os. Go deeper and the word keeps growing, which is why people screenshot it and search the stretched spelling on its own.
There is no fixed length. A narrow query gives a short word, a broad one gives the version that runs off the edge of the screen.
How the Stretched Logo Started
It has been part of search almost from the beginning, back when the footer was designed to echo the logo instead of listing plain numbers. It survived every redesign since, which makes it one of the oldest jokes still running, older than the whole set of newer google easter eggs.
Mobile is where it disappears. Loading more results as you scroll removes the need for numbered pages, so the logo never gets a chance to stretch.
How to Use It
- Search something broad and scroll all the way down.
- Count the Os. Each one is a clickable page.
- Jump to the last O, then scroll to the bottom again. The word will have grown.
