Xbox Store Digital Sales Statistics 2026: Revenue, Digital Share and Pricing Data

XBOX content and services revenue fell 10% year on year in the quarter ended 30 June 2026, the steepest of the four declines Microsoft reported in fiscal 2026. Microsoft never publishes an Xbox Store figure on its own. Content and services is the closest line, covering first- and third-party content, Game Pass and other subscriptions, cloud gaming and advertising. Here is what Microsoft discloses, what Circana measures in the US, and what changed on price.

How Much Does The Xbox Store Bring In?

Microsoft renamed the reporting line from Gaming to XBOX in its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K. Under that label, XBOX revenue fell $1.7 billion, or 7%, for the year ended 30 June 2026.

The store side held up better than the hardware side. Content and services slipped 5%, which Microsoft attributed to a prior year that benefited from strong first-party content, offset in part by growth in Game Pass. Hardware dropped 29% on lower console volume, and the Xbox Series S sales data tracks that side of the business.

The fiscal 2024 jump is an acquisition effect. Microsoft credited 44 of those 50 percentage points to the net impact of the Activision Blizzard deal.

Xbox Store Digital Sales Statistics By Quarter

Only the first quarter of fiscal 2026 grew, and Microsoft credited Game Pass and third-party content while first-party sales declined. Each quarter after that fell, and the rate of decline doubled in the final one.

Xbox Against Microsoft’s Other Consumer Lines

Xbox was not the only weak spot in More Personal Computing last quarter, but it was the weakest. Search advertising grew while both hardware-linked lines fell.

How Much Xbox Software Is Bought Digitally?

Circana measures this as a dollar share, not a unit count, and only across titles it tracks in both physical and digital form. On that basis, 91% of US spending on Xbox Series titles went to digital versions between January and August 2024, up from 90% a year earlier.

Analyst Mat Piscatella noted the growth rate was slowing at the time. Xbox already sat far ahead of the other two platforms, and Sony’s own storefront numbers have kept climbing since.

Digital-Only Hardware Share

Console configuration is a separate measurement. It tells you which model buyers picked, not what they spent in the store.

Digital-only units ran at 75% of US Xbox Series sales early in 2025, then finished the calendar year at 66%. Disc-drive models recovered ground over the second half, and the Series S and Series X split shows where those units land.

Across the whole generation the ratio is lower, because early Series X sales came with drives. As of June 2026, digital-only editions made up 52% of life-to-date US Xbox Series unit sales, against 27% for PS5 and 0% for Switch 2.

Xbox Store Pricing Changes In 2026

Microsoft restructured Game Pass on 1 October 2025, renaming Core to Essential and Standard to Premium, and lifting Ultimate from $19.99 to $29.99. PC Game Pass went from $11.99 to $16.49.

The reversal came on 21 April 2026. Xbox Wire cut Ultimate to $22.99 and PC Game Pass to $13.99, and confirmed that new Call of Duty titles would no longer join at launch, arriving instead the following holiday season, roughly a year later. Existing titles stayed in the library, which matters for the series’ player numbers.

Essential$9.99$9.99
Premium$14.99$14.99
PC Game Pass$16.49$13.99
Ultimate$29.99$22.99

Both cuts landed inside the quarter where content and services fell 10%. Ultimate still sits above its early-2025 price, and the subscriber side of Game Pass is tracked separately.

Game Pass annual revenue reached nearly $5 billion for the first time in fiscal 2025, Satya Nadella told investors on the FY25 fourth-quarter earnings call.

Single-game prices did not follow the subscription up. Microsoft dropped its planned $79.99 tier in July 2025, telling outlets it would keep full-priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99.

Where Xbox Store Purchases Happen Now

Microsoft added game and add-on buying to the Xbox mobile app in April 2025, then gave it a dedicated Store tab in the December 2025 update, along with wishlists and add-on search on Android and iOS.

That widens the store beyond the console itself, as does streaming. Usage there is covered in the Xbox Cloud Gaming figures, and the wider platform picture sits in these Xbox platform statistics alongside industry revenue totals.
