How Many People Use Xbox Cloud Gaming?

More than 20 million people had streamed games through Xbox Cloud Gaming as of October 25, 2022, per Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on the FY23 Q1 earnings call.

That figure doubled from the 10 million cumulative streamers Microsoft reported on April 26, 2022. Both counts measure people who had streamed at least once since launch, not monthly active users.

Microsoft has not published a newer cumulative user count since. The company switched to reporting streaming hours in later earnings calls, so hours are now the best official gauge of usage. A similar shift toward engagement metrics shows up across Microsoft’s gaming reporting, tracked in these Xbox platform statistics.

Xbox Cloud Gaming recorded 140 million hours streamed in the quarter ending December 31, 2024, which Nadella called a record on the FY25 Q2 earnings call.

For the full fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, the service passed 500 million hours streamed, stated on Microsoft’s FY25 Q4 earnings call. Overall cloud gaming hours were up 45% year over year as of December 2025, based on Xbox Wire, with particularly strong uptake in Argentina and Brazil.

On the FY26 Q2 call covering the quarter ending December 31, 2025, Nadella said Xbox saw record PC players and record paid streaming hours, without giving a number.

Where Is Xbox Cloud Gaming Available?

Xbox Cloud Gaming supported 29 countries as of December 2025, per Xbox Wire, with India the most recent addition.

The service launched on September 15, 2020 inside Game Pass Ultimate. Microsoft expanded it to Brazil, Japan, Australia, and Mexico following an announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2021.

Xbox Wire’s December 2025 update singled out Argentina and Brazil for particularly strong uptake as cloud streaming rolled out across lower Game Pass tiers. Latin America’s pull toward lower-cost play mirrors patterns in tabletop gaming, where sales data also shows price-sensitive segments driving unit growth.

Which Devices Support Xbox Cloud Gaming?

The supported device list spans consoles, PCs, phones, tablets, handhelds, smart TVs, and VR headsets, per Xbox Wire in December 2025. Microsoft recommends a connection of at least 20 Mbps.

More than two-thirds of the Game Pass library was enabled for cloud streaming as of December 2025, per the same Xbox Wire post. Session-friendly streaming also suits shorter co-op play, a format whose growth shows up in popularity statistics for cooperative games.

Xbox Cloud Gaming Pricing and the Free Tier in 2026

Xbox Cloud Gaming exited beta on October 1, 2025, five years after launch. Microsoft added streaming up to 1440p for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on select games and devices, and extended cloud access to the cheaper Essential and Premium tiers.

As of December 2025, per Xbox Wire, Essential costs as low as $10 per month with access to more than 50 games, Premium costs $14.99 with 200+ games, and Ultimate carries 400+ games plus the highest streaming quality. Ultimate was priced at $29.99 after the October 2025 restructure; Microsoft cut it to $22.99 effective April 2026.

On July 23, 2026, Microsoft began testing a free, ad-supported way to stream games. Xbox Insiders can stream select titles they already own at no cost, with ads playing before sessions begin and a one-hour session limit across supported devices and regions, per Xbox Wire. Microsoft says ads do not interrupt gameplay and the test runs for a limited time.

Game Pass Subscribers Behind Xbox Cloud Gaming

Xbox Game Pass had 34 million subscribers as of February 2024, the last official count Microsoft has published. Cloud streaming is bundled into most Game Pass plans rather than sold separately, so Microsoft does not report a standalone cloud subscriber number.

Game Pass annual revenue reached nearly $5 billion for the first time in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, per Nadella on the FY25 Q4 call. Microsoft also reported 500 million monthly active users across its gaming platforms and devices in the same period; that figure covers all Microsoft gaming, not cloud streaming alone.

Xbox content and services revenue, the segment containing Game Pass, fell 5% year over year in the quarter ending December 31, 2025, per Microsoft’s FY26 Q2 press release. Engagement data across the wider games market, including board game industry statistics, shows subscription and digital channels taking a growing share of player spending even where individual segments dip.
