Still Stuck at Epic in MLBB? These 5 Habits Are Holding You Back
Climbing the ranks in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang comes down to one thing: winning consistently. But stringing together wins and protecting your stars is easier said than done.
What separates Epic from lower tiers is the draft pick system, which kicks in at Epic V and replaces the blind pick format players are used to below.
In draft, teams take turns selecting heroes, and how you respond to your opponent’s picks matters. The problem is that most players carry old habits into Epic, and those habits are exactly what’s keeping them stuck.
Here are the five most common ones.
1. Locking Your Core Hero on the First Pick
From Epic V onward, every match opens with bans and alternating pick turns. If you commit to your main hero early without reading the enemy’s composition, you’re handing them a free counter pick in the final round.
The smarter play is to hold your carry until later in the draft. This lets you adapt to what the other team is building, rather than giving them the information they need to neutralize you before the match even starts.
2. Spreading Yourself Across Too Many Heroes
Ranked mode requires a minimum of five heroes in your collection, and a lot of players treat that as a reason to keep expanding their pool.
But breadth without depth is a liability. When you’re spreading your game time across too many heroes, your item builds aren’t instinctive and your spell usage isn’t sharp.
A better approach: go deep on two or three heroes within the same role. When teamfights break out, you’ll make faster and smarter decisions because you already know how your hero is supposed to move.
3. Waiting for Someone Else to Fill an Empty Role
Draft pick doesn’t assign roles automatically. Who plays roam, jungler, or gold laner gets sorted out in the pre-match lobby, and if nobody steps up, it doesn’t get sorted out at all.
A team without a roamer goes into the game with weak vision and no reliable teamfight initiator. Keep at least one off-role hero ready to go. It’s a small investment that keeps your team composition functional and saves everyone a lot of frustration.
4. Grinding Through a Losing Streak
Star protection in Epic and Legend isn’t automatic the way it is in lower tiers like Warrior. A losing streak can cut your stars and drop you back a division before you realize what’s happening.
Set a loss limit for each session, and stick to it. Starlight Members have access to Star Protection Cards for an extra safety net, but the most reliable protection is simply logging off when the momentum isn’t there.
5. Chasing Kills Instead of Objectives
Kill counts don’t win games in MLBB. Turrets and base destruction do. When your team is farming kills without converting that pressure into objective control, you’re giving the enemy time to take Turtle or Lord unopposed.
Use the Turtle and Lord respawn timers as your rotation cues. When your team is ahead, that’s when you collapse onto the objective, not when you’re chasing a retreating hero across the map. Kills that lead to objectives win games. Kills that lead to nothing just reset the clock.
Power Up Your Push to Mythic with GoPay Games
Getting stuck at Epic usually isn’t a hero problem. It’s a habits problem. The five areas above cover how you draft, how you train, how you support your team, how you manage your sessions, and how you think about winning. You don’t need to fix everything at once. Pick one, work on it, and build from there.
